I grew up eating artichokes with my dad in Southern California. While living in the Bay Area, I continued eating them and saw them growing when driving up the coast. Now that I’m no longer living in California, I can still get very good fresh artichokes when they’re in season. Love them! I will do a couple things differently after seeing this tutorial. They are currently in season and I’ve been eating them regularly.

I live in Portland OR area now and we have them growing here. They are a regular shopping list item in the Summer.

Wow! Great tutorial! Thank you for sharing it and I will pass it on. Artichokes actually girl pretty wild between Monterey all the way down to Ventura along the coast line. I grow them in the valley here at our ranch. Most of them are ornamental because I love their size and their giant beautiful purple blooms. Even so, we harvest plenty for eating. They are very easy to grow, but they do take up a lot of space. They are gorgeous!

The plants can be huge! The small ones are great for preserving too. I enjoy photographing them when left to bloom. Beautiful purple chokes are gorgeous, reminding me of a showgirl headdress.

Yes!!! That’s why I planted so many of them. Just beautiful in an exotic way. We have a lot of land so they fill in the landscape out here.

We used to eat artichokes often, but they've somehow fallen off of my shopping lists. A nice reminder!

There are several varieties as well. Try each of them to find out if you have a preference. There are also a pletora of dipping sauces you can look up on the Intertubes too.
